May 30: We preview the concert by Urs Leimgruber, Charlotte Hug, and Jacquest Demierre coming to Woodland Pattern on June 6.

May 23: Music from recent compilations of 21st century electronic music along with a preview of the concert by Urs Leimgruber, Charlotte Hug, and Jacques Demierre coming to Woodland Pattern on June 6.

May 16: In the midst of WMSE’s Spring Pledge Drive we offer live music from Zach Cohen (solo double bass) and some electronic music favorities.

May 9: We conclude our survey of the multiple recordings of Terry Riley’s In C with a recording by the ensemble Bang on a Can . . . along with more music for ruined pianos by Ross Bolleter and piano + by Sebastian Lexer.

May 2: The extended piano . . . featuring piano as a sound source for tape and other varitities of electroacoustic music, along with some retuned, detuned, and ruined pianos. New work by Sebastian Lexer, Sophie Agnel, and Ross Bolleter will be included along with classic work from Pierre Henry and many others.

Alternating Currents on WMSE (91.7FM) in Milwaukee every Sunday night from 6 until 9 p.m. is a showcase for music that experiments both with form and sound, in other words, serious creative work from artists who challenge the concepts and shapes of modern music-making. Alternating Currents is about the adventure of sound as it surveys music of 20th and 21st centuries including modern classical music, contemporary open form free jazz, electroacoustic and electronic music, and freely improvised music.
