January 29: Solos from the 70s … featuring selections from solo LPs by Oliver Lake, David Murray, Hamiett Bluiett, Don Pullen, Amina Claudine Myers, Billy Bang, Leroy Jenkins, Albert Mangelsdorf, Steve Lacy, Joe McPhee, and many others (including long out-of-print recordings on HORO Records, Passin’ Thru, Sweet Earth Records, Hat Hut, and other significant record labels from the period).

January 22: John Cage’s Concert for Piano and Orchestra in several unique performances by David Tudor, Francis-Marie Uitti, the Barton Workshop, the S.E.M. Ensemble, and the Nextime Ensemble with Stefano Scodanibbio). This is the first of several programs this year celebrating the 100th birthday of John Cage.

January 15: The music of composer/multi-instrumentalist Julius Hemphill.

January 8: Some discoveries from 2011 (old and new music) along with Part 2 of our tribute to Sam Rivers (at 8pm).

January 1: At 6pm, the music of Bill Dixon. At 7pm, Les Diaboliques with Maggie Nichols, Irene Schwiezer, and Joelle Leandre. At 8pm, a tribute to Sam Rivers.

September 25: We will broadcast our recording of the concert by Jason Kahn and Jon Mueller at Woodland Pattern last Sunday and preview Jason Roebke’s forthcoming concert on October 23rd.

September 18: Jason hosts the show during the Alternating Currents Live event at Woodland Pattern.

September 11: A preview of first Alternating Currents Live concert this season featuring Jason Kahn and Jon Mueller, along with some music for tuba, solo and with live electronics.

September 4: More composed than improvised, part II … with music by Mari Kimura (violin), George Lewis (trombone), Gerry Hemingway (drums), and more … along with a preview of the concert by Jason Kahn and Jon Mueller coming to Alternating Currents Live on September 18.

August 28: More composed than improvised – music by Luigi Nono, Georg Friedrich Haas, Mary Oliver and Rozemarie Heggen, John Cage, Wadada Leo Smith, and many others.

August 21: The music of guitarist Derek Bailey – in Company Week ensembles along with various duos and solos (including the legendary Milwaukee cassette recording on Incus Records).

August 14: A 7 p.m. the trio 1913 will visit with a radio debut of a live recording from their recent performance at Lubar Hall at Milwaukee Art Museum. This concert took place as part of an art performance by Nathalie Miebach a few months ago and Janet Schiff, Scott Johnson, and Victor Delorenzo of 1913 will fill us in on the story behind this new music.

July 31: The music of Muhal Richard Abrams with emphasis on his more recent solo and duo recordings (on Pi).

July 24: Three hours of musical contrast: Anne LeBaron, Luc Ferrari, Joelle Leandre, Anthony Braxton, John McDonough, Bill Dixon, and more.

July 17: At 7 p.m. our special guest will be Mark Mantel discussing his forthcoming Milwaukee performance (on Saturday, July 23rd) of “Sketches from the Machine Gun Concerto.” Before and after Mark’s visit: piano music from Aki Takase, Craig Taborn, Kristine Scholz, Cecil Taylor, and many, many others.

July 10: The music of Charlie Morrow (new on XI Records).

July 3: Our broadcast of Joshua Abrams’ solo concert last Sunday night at Woodland Pattern . . . along with some music by Pierre Bastien and some new releases.

June 26: Alternating Currents Live presents a solo performance by Joshua Abrams (double bass and guimbri) with one evening exhibition of the paintings and fabric art of Lisa Alvarado.

June 19: The music of Joshua Abrams featuring previously released recordings and selections from his earlier Alternating Currents Live performances (including Town and Country, Cipher, and Nicole Mitchell’s Black Earth Strings).

On Sunday, June 26, at 7 p.m. Joshus Abrams will present an evening of solo bass and guimbri with a backdrop of paintings and fabric pieces by Lisa Alvarado.

June 12: At 7 p.m. we will feature “7 Circular Gestures” by Seth Warren-Crow. Recorded live as part of the dance performance “Stone Soup” at Sweet Water Organics in Milwaukee on May 1, 2011. “7 Circular Gestures” is performed by Sean Behling (clarinet and electronics), David Collins (tenor saxophone and electronics), Jeff Klatt (cello), and Seth Warren-Crow (composer, drums and electronics).

June 5: Music by Mats Gustafsson (in preview of his performances at Okka Fest 2011 in Milwaukee) . . . along with some work by Pierre Bastien.
